GENERAL INFORMATION
Dietary choices are known to have a major impact on health and prevention of age-related diseases, such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. The molecular targets and pathways affected by dietary constituents are, however, still poorly understood. The goal of molecular nutrition is to identify active food constituents and to characterize their molecular mechanisms of action.

In this post-graduate course, lectures and case studies sessions will focus on the correlation between nutrition and health, and the functionality of dietary phytochemicals at the molecular level. The course, co-organised in the scope of the NaturAge project, will also underline the importance of hormesis in healthy ageing. A significant laboratorial component is included on the use of the comet assay for evaluation of chemopreventive effects of dietary phytochemicals.

This course is aimed for post-graduate students, researchers and professionals involved in the assessment of biochemical and molecular mechanisms of food constituents.
